Less than 2 weeks after applying for the position, I received an email requesting a phone interview. The interview was scheduled for a Thursday afternoon and it seemed to go well. The recruiter asked about salary requirements up front. The very next day, I was asked to come in for a face-to-face interview the following Friday. The face-to-face consisted of the recruiter from the phone interview and assistant director of HR since the Trainer would be an HR team member. Again, they requested my salary requirements. This interview lasted approximately an hour and was followed by an IQ test and a Skills test. The next week, I was asked to come in for a final interview. Various members of the HR team participated in this interview. They painted a very rosy picture of the company and really made me feel like I could be a part of the team. And again - they asked for my salary requirements.
The following week, I received an email that basically stated "we really enjoyed speaking with you but it seems that your skills and abilities exceed what we are looking for at this time". Seems to me like they were waiting for me to come down on my salary requirements but my requirements were in line with the market and with my current salary. And I am sure they knew when they posted the position that they could not accomodate that. I felt it was very unprofessional of them to continue the interview process and not even mention that they could not meet that salary. We probably could've negotiated something because I really liked what I saw about the company.
