The interview process was described as 3 stage, #1 (Virtual) Informal discussion with a member of the team, #2 (F2F) Formal interview with the Product Director, #3 (F2F) Discussion with the CTO [I did not progress to Interview #3] The informal interview was good, focused on soft skills. Allowed discussions on the basics but also insider discussion about working in the teams which I felt would not be uncovered in a more formal setting The formal interview was focused on the hard skills, "what did you release", "how did you work with customers" etc. which is what I would expect for this role. The company were interested in hiring people who were new(ish) to their industry but with a Product Development background A lot of my discussions focused on the culture. I felt the conversation looped back to the main point that Content Guru's approach is in-office 9-5 Mon-Fri, focused on "relationship building". There are small company growing points which were odd to me personally (eg. meet the CTO in an almost 500 person company interview process) but I respect the attention to the hiring process Going back to culture, the flag raised to me when discussing in my #2 interview, was a lack of knowledge/empathy of how the company is perceived as an employer. I asked questions based on recent perception on Glassdoor and it was a genuine conversation about the topic, but it seemed they were not as attentive as I would expect for someone so close to the companies history and considering the recent reviews putting the company in a negative light in the middle of a growth period

Question 1
Talk about your product GTM from roadmap inception to customer release

Interview
I went through a multi-stage interview process for a Project Manager role. The interviews seemed structured at first, with multiple conversations involving senior leadership. I showed up prepared, demonstrated clear leadership ability, asked the right questions, and communicated directly and professionally.
After several rounds and offer was ready to be signed, I received a rejection with vague, contradictory feedback. I was told they were “looking for someone with deeper experience in CCaaS” and simultaneously that they needed “someone with more toughness of character” due to the intensity of their growth phase. That combination of feedback was, frankly, unconvincing. If expertise in a specific domain was the dealbreaker, that should have been identified much earlier in the process. And if “toughness of character” means someone willing to absorb chaos without pushing back or asking hard questions, then I’m not surprised they’re struggling.
The whole process gave the impression that they were unclear on what they were really looking for — and possibly uncomfortable with candidates who bring structure, assertiveness, and senior-level presence.

Contacted by an external recruiter initially.
Progressed onto an initial virtual interview with a senior team member and then onto a 2nd stage with the local office director. 3rd stage was mentioned and planned but was then decided not to be needed and I was informed an offer was on its way pending final signoff by the business.
Waited a week before being told that it would now not be coming as the CTO had decided he preferred another candidate despite having had no input to the recruitment process not been involved in any interviews. Chased for a further day to receive any feedback why before getting given a reason that was CTO did not like an element with no context.
Whole process was very slow taking over 2 months but was over the peak summer holiday period.
