Each commissioner on the board have different expectations and office set ups, so it was important for me to look up information about the board member before deciding to apply. I found out about this position through a commissioner’s social media post on their campaign page. I sent them an email, and they got back to me within two days. We set up an interview time for the following week in person at their district office. Unfortunately, I was sick with COVID the day before the interview, but the commissioner was very understanding; so we conducted the interview over Zoom. The commissioners questions centered more around my experiences in working with community members, organizations, and my knowledge on policy. We then talked about our values and experiences. This was a new position for their office, so they were transparent that this job may change a little bit. The commissioner then called my references the day after, and the day after the next, they offered me the job. I really appreciated the quick turnaround. I had a start in about three or four weeks later because I was out of state visiting family and I couldn’t start work until I was in the county and in the beginning of a pay period, according to the counties human resources department — which was my only negative. I appreciated the commissioner for advocating for me to start as soon as possible.
