I applied via the standard application process. I believe I had emailed with a faculty member or two in advance of applying, and perhaps had a phone call, but nothing sticks in my mind. I know I visited and met in person with several faculty, including the person who would later be my chair, after I was accepted but before I agreed to come.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
There was more emphasis than I expected on long-term career goals. Also, for applying to a graduate program, I was surprised at the specificity faculty expected with regard to what I will study -- after all, isn't grad school where you figure out *what* to study? I had broad ideas, but I was surprised how specific some of my fellow students were when they arrived.
It was only one meeting with PhD student in which I was asked questions about my resume, skillsets, etc, I got to ask questions at the end as well about the position, expectations, etc
Nothing..because I am a former student there. So I dont have a formal interview actually. It's informal and I am a volunteer there. Also, people are really nice there so if you want to do research, please go there
I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY) in Mar 2016
Interview
After getting admitted by the CEE department, I spoke with 5 faculty, all of whom were very welcoming and shared with me their current research. Also got to meet current grad students, all of which spoke positively about their experiences at Cornell.
