      Analyst Interview

      Nov 8, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Costello Medical (London, England) in Oct 2019

      Interview

I went through a very lengthy recruitment process (~2 months) for this job, including a critical appraisal essay, then I had to prepare an in-depth presentation regarding NICE guidelines. On the interview day, I presented this, went through 3 interviews and then another test. I’m very self-aware so if I had messed something up I would know, but I didn’t at any point. I put in massive effort/enthusiasm throughout the process and answered everything to a high standard. 2 days later they rejected me without a reason, despite me reaching out for feedback. It’s worth noting that the large majority of their staff studied at Oxford/Cambridge so the recruitment is extremely elitist. Of the staff on their LinkedIn page, and the staff at the entire London office, I didn’t see a single ethnic minority, so they aren’t keen on diversity either. Good luck to any fellow POCs who embark on this journey.

Hello, Thank you for your review and for taking the time to interview for our Analyst role. Firstly, we respond to all requests for feedback from candidates who have interviewed with us and I would encourage you to email recruitment@costellomedical.com if you have not yet heard back, as typically all feedback is given within 2 weeks of the interview. We recruit from a wide variety of universities across the UK, and over recent weeks we’ve attended careers fairs at the University of Manchester, Bath University, University of Leeds, University of Sheffield and more; we also value the relationships we have with careers advisors at the universities and regularly promote our opportunities on over 25 different university careers portals in the UK alone. You can also read about our team on our website (https://www.costellomedical.com/about-us/team/), where you will see that our talented colleagues have attended a variety of universities across the UK and globally. I can assure you therefore that we do not simply target select groups of students, as demonstrated by the above. We were also surprised and disappointed by the quick conclusion you made from looking at our LinkedIn page and think this is an unfair, and unfounded, conclusion to draw. We are proud of our fair and equitable recruitment process and we continually strive to ensure our processes meet these standards, which is why we have an Equal Opportunities policy in place and also ensure that all colleagues involved in the recruitment process are given training in this area. If you have any specific concerns then we would encourage you to get in touch with us directly on the email listed above and we can further explain our commitment to equal opportunities. Finally, I would add that we are committed to delivering an exceptionally high quality of work to our clients. Our highly talented team are central to this and are the reason that our clients return to work with us. Our recruitment process is therefore designed to rigorously assess the key skills required to deliver our services and it also provides you with a true flavour of the role. There is in fact only one interview as part of our process, in addition to a 30 minute presentation and a short conversation with a member of our leadership team, and many candidates have commented that they enjoyed our application and interview process. We are sorry to hear therefore that you found our process lengthy and did not have a positive experience. If you have any further feedback to give then please do get in touch; otherwise, thank you for your time in providing us with your thoughts. Best wishes, The Costello Medical Recruitment Team

The first round was a more informal phone call. After I passed this, I was provided a technical assessment that was graded before they shared the opportunity for a final technical interview.

      Interview

Costello seem to have an open job advert and it appears they are only after the very best. An extremely time consuming technical assessment which seems very other the top for an entry level role. On top of that they give very generic feedback about grammar for the written assessment which I know is not true as I made sure to be very thorough. It seems crazy to reject a candidate for grammar given grammar and AL tools are used nowadays rather than judge them on their scientific capabilities.
