After CV and cover letter review, there was an invitation to an initial assessment of proofreading work on medical papers that needs to be done within a timeline and sent back
Difficult interview
Application

Interview
As reviewed by the others, the application process consisted of three parts: CV/cover letter screening, written tasks which included a critical appraisal of a clinical trial paper and a proofreading assessment, and a final interview. For someone who is truly "entry-level", a significant amount of time would be needed to complete the critical appraisal. The final interview was about 2 hours and a further task was given prior to interview. This would require significant preparation time as well. The overall process took around 2 months. Despite a very responsive and organised HR, the significant amount of time and effort required to go through the entire process is probably not worthwhile given that the team were definitely looking for "the perfect candidate" for the "entry-level role" they advertised for. Or perhaps, they were not really looking to hire. The selection process could have been made more efficient, to filter people out right in the beginning, rather than making people go through the lengthy, draining process just to receive a long list of bullet points on how lacking the candidate was in terms of performance. I genuinely do not think that candidates would go through the entire process just for fun.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Interview was very structured. Everyone gets asked a standard set of questions and therefore the entire process felt a bit 'cold' and lack personalisation. They also made it clear that some questions might get repeated when being interviewed by different interviewers. Therefore, be prepared to answer the same question more than once. What does quality mean to you? What made you decide to apply to this role?
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Costello Medical (Singapore) in Apr 2026
Interview
The interview process began with brief introductions, followed by a 10-minute presentation on a pre-assigned topic, for which preparation time was provided approximately two weeks in advance. This was followed by a combination of structured and more open-ended questions relating to the presentation, allowing for both clarification and deeper discussion. This portion of the interview was conducted by a Senior Medical Writer and a Senior Analyst and lasted approximately 30 minutes in total.
The second half of the interview focused on competency-based and fit-related questions, conducted by a Consultant and the APAC region head. This segment lasted around 45 minutes and provided an opportunity to discuss my background, motivations, and suitability for the role in greater depth.

Interview
After CV screening, and proofreading + writing assessment, I was invited to the final stage interview (presentation + qs, behavioural questions) which ended up being via Teams. Interview panel were all very friendly, the time for each segment was a bit strict, and you do get some gentle instant feedback for your answers. It was difficult in part because it was so long, but being well prepared with examples helped.
