Interview
The recruiter was nice and gave me a great feeling about the company during the initial phone interview. Then followed a half-day mix of questions about career and programming with about a dozen people. Fairly standard. The biggest problem was that the recruiter had told me that there would be no puzzles to solve, so I was not prepared to work through an opaque and uncommented listing of puzzle code, about 100 lines long. At no point did they tell me that it was actually the pairing exercise (the recruiter had said the pairing would be on real business logic). I was supposed to ask for help and take suggestions from the people watching me but without instructions I worked through it like I would a puzzle. This was frustrating to hear afterwards that they did not think that I was a team player, since I did not know that it was a team exercise. The abrupt ending was off-putting. Most of the interviewers were nice but some came off as arrogant rockstar-ninja-unicorn developers.
