I was approached by an executive search firm for a position in Atlanta, GA. The initial interview was scheduled for 25 minutes. Obviously this was not enough time to get a full picture of my experience for such a senior role. So another interview was scheduled for another 25 minutes.
The questions were very simple and easy to answer with little thought required (you either had the experience or didn´t). Questions were very pointed and specific, the way I think they should be. I passed this filter and was presented to the company and selected for an interview with HR.
The interview with HR was scheduled for (you guessed it) 25 minutes. The interviewer did not seem particularly interested in my experience, did not request to go over my complete career history and said she only wanted to fill in some gaps / questions that were still outstanding based on the report provided by the executive search firm. The “interview” was not engaging nor stimulating in any way; however, I felt like it had already been predetermined that I would pass onto the next interview with the hiring manager. (The little voice inside my head kept asking if this was normal for the company.)
The interview with the hiring manager was scheduled and it was a very conversational dialogue. Again, no challenging questions were asked. It felt more like I was talking to my future supervisor than a potential employer. He seemed very interested in my profile and talked a lot about the organization. At this time, I started to think that this whole process was just TOO easy!
I was informed by HR that I had “passed” the interview with the supervisor and asked to take 3 Hogan Assessments (approximately 600 questions). The HR person that coordinated this part of the process for me was one of the best HR people I have ever encountered – truly a role model for many other HR people (inside and outside of Cox)! Prior to taking the Assessment, I requested that the results be shared with me for my personal development and interest. I was told very clearly “no”.
After the Assessments, there was silence. No feedback from Cox Automotive was provided despite repeated calls and emails.
Finally, the recruiter from the executive search firm entered into contact with me and said that he was sorry he took so long to respond and that the company was no longer considering me for the position. I requested feedback of any kind and was informed that Cox had consistently rejected candidates without providing any feedback / reasons.
The recruiter also told me that his firm fired Cox Automotive as a client because they never provided any feedback or reason for not hiring someone. Consequently, they were effectively shooting in the dark with candidates.
Overall a very disappointing experience from an organization that I thought would have its act more together.
PS - In all interviews, the 25 minutes was strictly enforced.
The HR interview was scheduled for guess how long.... 25 minutes (again strictly enforced). The HR person did not request to go over my complete career history and said she only wanted to fill in some gaps / questions that were still outstanding based on the report provided by the executive search firm. It was not a stimulating conversation and it felt like she was only doing her job because it s
