Submitted my resume online, then was interviewed via phone by an HR representative. She pushed my application through to the hiring manager, and I was invited for an in-person meeting. It was a very casual meeting, the hiring manager was friendly but it appeared he wanted someone with a more technical background (SEO, website analytics) than what I have (my background is heavily content and campaign management), which would have been good for the HR rep to have known and weeded me out then. The job description should likely have also been for a technical marketing manager.
I found it unprofessional that no attempt was made to contact me and let me know that they are moving forward with other candidates. I didn't expect (or want) an offer, but if someone takes the time to come into your office and meet you, you owe them a follow up.
