This company is totally flip. They hire naïve recent graduates and make them sign their life away for 2 years. I was not applying for an entry level position but they kept referring to my college AND high school GPA. Not that my GPA was bad, but I’ve been out of high school for almost 10 years! Is that information really important anymore?? I asked around and found out that a few acquaintances had worked at Cvent previously. After hearing a couple horror stories about the company, and knowing that I would have to sign a two-year bond, I decided not to take the position.
In regards to the actual interview process - AWFUL! You should plan to take a whole day off from work! I was scheduled to interview from 3pm – 6pm but in reality I was in the office to interview from 3PM – 815PM. The most dreadful part was that I was interviewed for maybe 2.5 hours out of the 5 hours that I was there. They made me sit and wait… and wait… and wait… in between each interviewer. Totally unorganized and to top it off – they made me wait almost an hour to speak with the president (because “he likes to get to know every applicant”) who sat with me for barely 15 minutes! They are completely inconsiderate of your personal time. The HR lady even said she felt bad for leaving the office before me but left anyways… and still did not offer any water.
Don’t expect them to think about your comfort level while you’re there either. They only offered me water ONCE when I first got there. And since I got there at 3, and had nothing to eat since lunch, I was drained and crashing by 6pm. If you’re going to interview a potential candidate for 5+ hours it’s common sense that they might need some food and water! Furthermore, they sat me in a conference room with glass walls which was next to a larger conference room filled with the entire sales team. I just sat there being watched like a zoo animal waiting for each interviewer. Each interviewer politely apologized for sitting me in that room but reminded me that all of the better rooms were already full with interviewees. Wow thanks, that makes it ok then.
I interviewed very well with my potential boss and future co-workers. I pleasantly answered all of their questions with responses they seemed to like and by the end of the first few rounds of interviews I felt pretty confident that they liked me. The president, however, was not a joy to meet. He is haughty and arrogant. He took every opportunity to knock my current job as well as other jobs that I am applying for. He asked 1 or 2 questions that were relevant to the job I was applying for and then asked me what was on my W-2’s for the last 3 years… that’s a strange way of asking about expected salary. He clearly was only interested in the numbers and whether or not he could afford me…
I received a follow-up call after the interview to wrap things up and everything sounded good…. except for the salary. Although I never heard back from Cvent (not even a decline letter) I decided Cvent is not the type of company I would want to work for.
