I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at D-Wave Quantum (Burnaby, BC) in Aug 2025
Interview
For a very "entry level" position, they make you go through hoops as if you were applying for a faculty position.
First a HR screening (fair).
Second a technical panel with the director of the science department and the group leader. They ask you to send a paper beforehand to comment it. They ask you questions about your technical background.
If you pass that round, you are called for the last round of interviews. There were another 3 different sessions: give a talk of your PhD research or similar, a technical panel with various questions and a problem solving panel. All this with different people in the panels. There were up to 10 people in the whole interviewing process.
In the other companies I have interviewed for, I had an HR screening and ONE technical interview.
Even with all the hoops, I thought most of it went quite well, however I didn't get an offer. I know other people interviewing for the same position, very good researchers, that were also rejected months ago. They haven't filled this position yet. They clearly have too many people involved in the process, and they don't really know what they want. Or they want a senior, more experienced person already in the field of quantum computing for an entry level position.
They didn't give me any feedback afterwards, just a generic answer through their HR representative even though I asked for feedback.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Technical questions about quantum mechanics, experimental physics, circuits.
The interview process included multiple rounds of technical interviews. The company is not sure about what they want for their roles. Myself and many colleagues went through the interview process and all had bad experiences.
