      Trader Assistant Interview

      Oct 28, 2014
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at DRW (Chicago, IL) in Oct 2014

      Interview

they treated us very well, took us out to a steakhouse the night before to talk with some of the traders and then grilled us on Saturday with 4 back to back interviews. the interview consisted of mostly behavioral questions, why trading etc, along with a few math questions in each. some interviews were nicer people some of them were tougher. the hardest part was a mock trading game and the group project where you basically had to build the tallest tower that could support heavy objects out of just paper and tape.

      Question 1

no hard questions really, just some mental math (i.e. whats 17 * 22, what is that answer * 5, what is the sum of those digits). however you have to remember those numbers you say as they will ask you one question then spend 10 minutes asking behavioral questions, then all of a sudden ask you to multiply the last number you said by 5.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at DRW (London, England) in Feb 2025

      Interview

The process lasted a total of 6 months, with a total of 7 interviews, a mix of technical interviews and tests. I had 2 'final' interviews. The whole time I was kept in the dark about the status of my application and reasons for delay, despite constantly requesting this information. I asked to have a call, only to be told that the role isn't going to be filled and that they've lost the headcount. Terrible treatment on the back of a terribly managed process.

      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at DRW

      Interview

The phone interview was primarily based on personality and fit questions, with a couple of brainteasers included near the end. There were almost no technical questions included, aside from the online mental math quiz.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

If I gave you $100,000, what would you do with it? How many quarters would it take to fill a 20x20x10 foot room?

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at DRW

      Interview

HR was very helpful, Interview time was arranged by email. Interviewer did not make you feel at ease but it is completely random who you get. A relatively important issue is that the call you through speakerphone and the sound coming through is somewhat muffled.

      Question 1

General CV questions, some probability questions.
