Interviewed with the Manager/Supervisor of the team.
The first red flag was when they said they were "not really interested in talent and ability, but we're looking for someone who would be the team friend."
No wonder they can't fill the position. They keep advertising it as "Business Analyst" when they need to be advertising it as "Team BFF."
They asked almost nothing in the way of technical questions, and didn't demonstrate having much advanced experience themselves. It was also clear they hadn't bothered to review much of my application materials. They didn't care what I could do for the team, they went in having already deciding they weren't interested.
The direction they claim to want to go in sounds great, but the fact that they aren't interested in hiring someone with the skills needed tells me that there is a big gap between what they say and what they actually do.
When I worked at this company before, they were quite content to remain two decades behind in terms of data and technology. I had hoped the creation of this new team meant they no longer wanted to rely on having a near-monopoly, but this interview left me disappointed.
An employee familiar with the department thought that they would "feel threatened" by the fact that I had knowledge of areas no one else on the team had. I just got the impression they didn't care and were just interviewing people to make it look like they tried.
