      Flight Attendant Interview

      Aug 9, 2023
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Atlanta, GA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Delta Air Lines (Atlanta, GA) in Feb 2023

      Interview

The first step was submitting the application, which wasn’t difficult because of the auto fill options. I was quickly accepted into the next step which was the online assessments, & I didn’t find them too difficult. I was able to take notes. Some of the assessments were personality-based, some were aptitude. Upon passing those, I got an invitation to the video interview. I did my research w/setting up the lighting & camera correctly & did it on my own time within their deadline. I was able to record it & send it to them, but there was a limited amount of times that I could record it & there was a time limit once I started the process. I passed that & was invited to an in-person interview. Up to this point the interview process was pleasant, engaging, & informative. But then I had to fly to Atlanta based on their terms, on the time and dates they determined on my behalf. They pay for the flight but usually it will be a night flight & you get to go to the interview tired all night then sent to the airport tired right after the interview with no option to change clothes out of your interview clothes. This might be just fine for people who live near Atlanta but I was coming from far away & if you have to take multiple flights & a major time difference it is absolutely exhausting & very difficult to perform your best (which is what will happen with the job anyway so that’s another way that I determined that it’s not for me). If you have curly hair bring hairspray, because my hair is usually fine but in Atlanta it got very frizzy & I absolutely did not look my best. I took the shuttle from my hotel to the interview location. My shuttle driver said to call him when I was done & he would pick me up where he dropped me off. I went into the building to check in then the building where the interview took place. I entered a room full of applicants. Everyone was very nice, interesting, but it was a loud room full of people & I got very exhausted pretty quickly & my throat got dry. There was no water or anything. Flight attendants came, introduced themselves, gave a speech & broke everyone into groups. They had everyone put all of their stuff away in a locked room so no one would have access to anything besides their glasses. If you need anything (medication, menstrual products, other urgent items) you have to ask permission while everyone stares at you. This happened to one of the applicants later, very awkward. Everyone was brought to a main room where there was finally water available, but no food. Eat a big breakfast or lunch before your interview because there was absolutely no food at my interview. You will be here for 4+ hours. Then they switched everyone into groups again, some people going into one room or another. There was a team activity reading instructions & following them as a team & it gets loud because there are multiple groups in the same room & you have to yell for the flight attendants to hear you which I had difficulty with. Then everyone had to go talk to flight attendants in another room. There were also in-person interviews. The flight attendant interviewing me said I had a different perceptive which I guess they don’t like because they want everyone to match their image & to me that came across as a bit controlling. I vibe with their values & work ethic but I also value having my own perspective and opinions, so if this company is for you or not depends somewhat on that. Then there was a reach test & a seatbelt test. Then they gave a presentation on why you have to live in the base city if you would like to have days off where you are not commuting & why you have to be okay with any schedule that changes without warning, which is also not for me but some people don’t mind that. Then I was dismissed with the first group which usually means that there is no job offer which I did not mind after learning more during the interview. What I was not okay with: I attempted to go back to the location where my shuttle driver from the hotel dropped me off, the Delta people physically forced me to get on their bus because everyone else being dismissed had flights. The bus was going to the airport. I explained my situation but they said I had to get on the bus & wait for the hotel shuttle there. They physically barricaded me from doing anything other than getting on the bus. I was exhausted from no sleep, hungry from no food, overwhelmed. I am glad they let me stay at the hotel that night (which I paid for out of pocket) and flew me back the next day, but it was 38° raining, no coat in interview clothes, waiting for an hour for the shuttle at the airport. Absolutely rude & controlling

      Interview

I am currently in the interview process for the FA position and have reached the ODV part of it. Most of the questions are expierenced based, so I would recommend just thinking of the times you have exceeded the customer service baseline before hand.
