I was contacted by a third party recruiter in early April 2019, who was retained to find someone for sales. I disclosed immediately that I was remote from DevonWay's offices in North Carolina, but I'd be amenable to relocate. I had 2 interviews, a screening interview with the recruiter, then one with the hiring manager. In both interviews, I killed it, considering I've been working in their industry for a while now, and knew their products and the competitive landscape that they would be selling into. The hiring manager said they had a conference the next week after our conversation, but that they would make a decision and get back to me after that. 2 weeks elapsed, and I heard nothing. I called the recruiter, who was out of the office, but when they returned a week later they told me that the employer was ghosting them as well. I finally reached out myself to the hiring manager directly, who then got back to the recruiter. I got generally positive feedback, but no definitive answer other than the hiring manager had to talk to senior management for a decision. 2 more weeks passed by, and still nothing. Finally, I reached out to the recruiter again, and asked them to reach out and find out what was going on. The recruiter got back to be once again, and this time I got feedback. Apparently, they found 2 candidates in their local area who they claimed were as qualified as me (I seriously doubt that, since my skills range far beyond where they sell, my experience was rare in a salesperson, and I made that clear in my interview). I was asked to sit tight for a week, while they decided what to do (and presumably make an offer to one of their local candidates). The recruiter assured me that they would get back, and not for me to wait if I had interviews pending. I emphatically told the recruiter that I would not be sitting still, but I agreed to see what happened. OK, so one more week passed, and still nothing. I contacted the recruiter, and all of a sudden they ghosted me. The company never responded as well. So, after they ask me to wait for them to remove head from body parts, they don't even have the courtesy to reject me. I have been a hiring manager in the past, and telling candidates that they're not going to be hired is one of the toughest things that you need to do. However, if they just did that, I'd respect them much more than I do now. I'd steer clear of this company. They are a really small fish in a big pond, and I don't see them being able to compete. Moreover, they obviously don't respect candidates, so how would they treat employees? No one has any courtesy anymore, and it's not like I was in a stack of a thousand resumes. I was one of three candidates.
