I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Dillard's (Midland, TX) in May 2011
Interview
I was called in for a first interview with one of the hiring supervisors after applying online the day before. The interview went very well. I was asked the basic retail interview questions then she said she would set up a final interview with her store manager for the following Tuesday, 4 days later. So I went to the second interview Tuesday at 2:00, when the interview was scheduled for. I sat at customer service for over an hour until 3:10. Then I was finally called in. She asked what my schedule was, confirmed my previous retail work experience and asked which department I would like to work in. After that she said she would like for me to come work there and she said she would call me in for training after my background check came back. I have no criminal background. I have never failed a background check. I was never called back at Dillard's. So even if you are offered a job, don't stop looking for others. I waited 2 weeks and called Dillard's repeatedly asking for my background check status. I was told I would be called back several times and I never was. If they changed their mind about me, so be it, but I should have been notified.

Question 1
Describe a positive situation with a customer in a retail situation
Standard interview, quite short (20 minutes) for the first round. Asked about past experience, sales skills, expected pay, and my future goals at the company. Interviewers were very nice and welcoming, made the experience much less intimidating!
Not sure what to expect. When I spoke to the manager it felt very condescending and off putting. The interview was fine but they exaggerated the amount of commission associates can make and didn’t even give me a chance to agree to a job offer just assumed that I would take it. I don’t have very high hopes about how it will be working there. When I came in for my interview one associate didn’t even greet me like she did the last customer and the energy of the atmosphere just felt super dull and soulless. I need this job on my resume as a fashion business student for internships so I’ll push through but not at all optimistic about the work environment.
