I interviewed at Directive (Toronto, ON) in Jun 2024
Interview
During my interview for the SEO Specialist role at Directive Consulting, things quickly went downhill. The interview was scheduled for 10 AM, but I wasn’t called until almost 10:30 AM, with no explanation or apology for the delay. Once the interview started, it became clear that the interviewer had not reviewed my resume beforehand. They kept asking me about experiences and skills that were clearly listed on my resume, making me feel like they were unprepared and uninterested.
Moreover, the interviewer seemed distracted and kept checking their phone during our conversation. At one point, they even took a call, leaving me awkwardly waiting for several minutes. When we finally got back on track, their questions were very generic and didn’t seem to probe into my SEO expertise or how I could specifically contribute to Directive Consulting.
Additionally, there was no discussion about the company’s culture or the team I’d be working with, which made it difficult to gauge whether I would be a good fit. The whole experience felt rushed and impersonal. By the end of the interview, I was left with a poor impression of the company’s professionalism and work environment. Despite my initial excitement about the role, this experience made me question whether I wanted to work there at all.

I hope this story conveys the kind of bad experience you had in mind!
Typical process. Kick off call, phone interview, mock project/assignment with a final round. All in all positive process and everyone I met along the way were great. It was a quick, transparent process
