I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Discovery, Inc. (New York, NY) in Aug 2014
Interview
Applied online. Heard back two weeks later from one of Discovery's recruiters who sent me a webcam interview link. When I didn't hear anything I followed up two weeks later and the recruiter said "thanks for following up, are you available to come to the office for an in-person interview?" I wonder what would've happened if I didn't follow up!
Discovery had always been a dream company for me so I was disappointed at how terrible the in-person interviews were.
The person who greeted me at reception was extremely disinterested and unfriendly. Then the first interview was with the recruiter who showed me my career path as a Sales Associate. Apparently it wouldn't be 5 years until I had the opportunity to speak to a client or even be in the same room as the Account Executives to learn how to approach strategic partnerships. I then met with the VP of Sales and Director of Sales in a small, dark office. It was a Friday and apparently they had a deadline for getting something in. Needless to say, they were working on their laptops/desktops the entire duration of my interview and passively asked me to tell them about myself and ask any questions I had. I think they looked up from their monitors twice in total.
I was asked back for another round of in-person interviews and declined. When comparing the interview with Discovery with the interviews I had with other companies, it wasn't even comparable. I'd rather be unemployed than work in an environment where I'd essentially just be a number in the larger machine.
I deeply hope that this was a one-off and random experience because I think Discovery is an inspiring platform with fantastic content.
The interview process was interesting. They email you a link to the interview and its an on camera recording. Questions appear and you have a certain amount of time to answer.
