1. I was invited to complete a test after almost a month of submitting my application.
2. I completed the test within a week as requested and sent it back to them.
3. Then it took them almost a month again to reply with a general 'not proceeding with your application' rejection email without providing any feedback.
As an experienced linguist, I find this experience very shocking and disrespectful, especially coming from such a large language learning company. When you ask a potential candidate to spend 1-2 hours completing a test, you need to show some basic respect and appreciation by acknowledging receipt of the completed test and then provide professional feedback.
We need to stop treating people working with languages professionally as machines and thinking that it is ok to let candidates do all these free tests without even showing them basic professional respect by providing some feedback. Big companies need to be held responsible and should play a critical role in reforming this exploitative culture.
