A word to any government affairs professionals, be wary of this position and interview process. Ideas harvesting. Like countless other reviews here, the interviewing process started out promising and left me feeling disappointed and with a negative view of the organization. Submitted an application, and within two weeks a recruiter reached out for a screening. After a successful screening, had a 30 minute call with potential colleague. Clear from the conversation that the company currently has no government affairs function. Went great, and the next step was a "take home task," which essentially is an exercise to put together a full government affairs strategy for the organization in one of its key markets. They instruct not to take more than four hours on this assignment. After submitting the take home task, there was a response within 48 hours. The response came from the recruiter, and claimed that the organization would have liked to seen more details in the government relations tactics. I honestly believe (and like so many others have written) that Duolingo is harvesting ideas from potential job seekers. This position has been open since October 2021, and is now February 2022. I currently devise similar strategies for Fortune100 companies, and their assessment of my work was dismissive and lacked any thoughtful critique.
