I applied online and was contacted within a few days to set up a phone interview with the hiring manager. We spoke for about 45 minutes and it was very pleasant and I had a positive experience. She complimented me on my writing and I asked questions about the position and the company. She said she’d like me to meet with one of the other managers and she’d reach out to him to set it up. When I hung up the phone I was very excited about moving forward. But she completely ghosted me. I sent a follow-up email thanking her for the time and saying that I was looking forward to meeting with XYZ but it never happened. A few weeks later I got the standard “you have not been selected for this position” automated email. Very unprofessional. If you tell me you’re going to set up a second interview but then have second thoughts at least have the courtesy to respond to my message personally.
