The interview process is completely broken. HR and Management has no clue what the other is doing resulting in a disjointed process for the potential employee.
I phone screened with Early Warning in early January and the interview with the recruiter was quite positive. I was told I was the "Lone Ranger" candidate (the only candidate they were looking at) so they were keen to get me in front of the hiring manager. Fast forward a couple of weeks. I had a video interview with the hiring manager and things did not go well. He admitted he had not been in contact with the recruiter to go over my resume and was thus not prepared for our interview. Additionally, he was preoccupied with his cell phone the ENTIRE duration of the interview. He was not capable or in a place to ask me any relevant questions during the interview. An unmitigated disaster. Still, I was told afterward by the recruiter that the hiring manager wanted to bring me on site for the final interview.
Fast forward another couple of weeks. The recruiter intimated on a Monday that the hiring manager would like to fly me out for an onsite visit by the end of the week. The recruiter told me he would arrange the travel. One week later, no communication at all from either the recruiter or hiring manager. Ghosted.
Fast forward another week, the recruiter finally reaches out, apologizes and says the hiring manager would, again, like to fly me out the following week. Again, one week passes and no response from the hiring manager or recruiter. Ghosted again.
Fast forward one more week, the job posting has been taken down. I write the recruiter about it. No response. I write one more time and the recruiter finally admits the department had decided to promote from within. I can't find fault with that since, as a leader, I believe in mentoring individuals to move up the company ladder if they're interested and qualified. The recruiter apologized for the change of direction. Being the "Lone Ranger" candidate was never in the cards to begin with, and by all accords, DO NOT ghost your candidates!
