Question 1
Questions re managing unfamiliar subject matter expertise
I've interviewed for two separate positions. For the first, I had a phone screen with two attorneys. For the second, I had a phone screen with a recruiter followed by a zoom panel with several attorneys. The first was a negative experience. The questions were rote and less no room for organic conversation. The attorneys seemed unhappy they had to be there and sometimes they didn't even acknowledge my answers before moving to the next question. I was told to save my questions for the next round if I made it that far. I was also told they would get back to me in a few weeks and they never did. The second experience was far more positive. The recruiter was warm, transparent, and respectful of my time. The panel interview with attorneys was susbstantively interesting and, while well-structured with many of the same questions I had been asked in the prior experience, this time the attorneys listened and sometimes asked follow ups.

Tell me about a conflict you had with a colleague. Explain a legal doctrine in simple terms.
I had a phone screen that was pretty detailed. Lots of behavioral questions and they asked for a tough legal issue I had dealt with that led to a pretty in depth conversation.
