I applied online and scheduled an interview a week later. The initial interview went smoothly and the interviewer asked a lot of questions about my past experience working with this specific population. They were very transparent, stating that due to high-turnover all Counselors (licensed or not) would need to start as PRN working 12 hour shifts and every other weekend. This is not uncommon for most inpatient or hospital settings, and I was open to learn more about the position and potential for growth. I expressed my interest in wanting a full-time position as was confident in my ability to work with this population due to my past work and internship experience. They could only offer a PRN counseling position and asked if I was still interested in interviewing. I let them know that if it was the right opportunity I would be willing to work PRN if guaranteed through my ability to perform and work ethic that after 60-days I could be considered for a full-time position. My only apprehension was the need to transport patients to and from "outings" in a big white van which posed an ethical and legal threat to professional license. I was asked back to shadow a Counselor for 8 hours to get a glimpse as to what their day-to-day responsibilities would consist of. I was then told that I would hear back either way within the next couple of weeks. I was disappointed at their lack of follow through, as I have yet to hear anything back from them. Since they expressed their high-turnover rate perhaps they should reconsider their recruiting efforts.
