I went through the entire interview process - speaking with the hiring manager, panel interview, and a presentation with everyone (including the CEO). During the interview process the hiring manager was very responsive to me. However, it became quite clear during the final interview (presentation) that what they are looking for is a customer success leader, someone who has the experience and can build out a CS program. When I probed further into this I was told that they didn't have budget or head count to hire a Head of CS which is why they are hiring a CSM. Afterwards, I texted the hiring manager to see if he was available to talk. I didn't hear back so after a few days I emailed him to withdraw my candidacy. I was pretty disappointed that I was ghosted at the end like that - no call, no response to my email, not even an automated message.
My advice - Be professional, have integrity, it takes 30 seconds to reply to an email thanking someone for their time.
Also, if you want/need a CS leader, find the budget and title. It's unfair to ask candidates to do that level of work for a mid-career title and pay.
