      Technical Writer Interview

      Apr 27, 2014
      Anonymous employee
      Madison, WI
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Epic (Madison, WI) in Apr 2014

      Interview

After responding to a recruiter's email, I submitted my resume online and heard back within several days to schedule an interview. I was asked to take some online assessments (one logic-based that included verbal, mathematical reasoning, programming, and a timed math section, and one personality profile) before my phone interview. The phone interview was very brief, about 40 minutes, and was mostly an opportunity for me to learn about the company and the position and for the HR department to verify some basic information (e.g. my possible start date, my GPA, etc.). I was also asked a few questions like where I saw myself in 5 years. A few days after my phone interview, I received an invitation for an on-site interview in Madison, which was scheduled for a week and a half later. I initially applied for a QA position, but I was also asked to take an online writing assessment before traveling to the interview, which suggested I was also being considered for a writing position. My interview day consisted of several mini one-on-one information sessions about QA and writing, as well as a case study for each, lunch on Epic's campus, and another timed writing assessment. I heard back about a week later with a job offer.

I had a phone interview about the position and the company as a whole and then performed an online assessment. The phone interview was very helpful and informative, but the assessment felt wholly unrelated to the position as it was described to me.
