I applied online. I interviewed at Equinix (Redwood City, CA) in Aug 2018
Interview
I spent several weeks speaking via phone with various team members about an opportunity in the HR Talent Management team. I even delayed a planned vacation to interview on site in Redwood City, CA. I was excited to get a better sense of the Magic of Equinix and the position as a final candidate.
In all honesty, what happened next was disappointing and not what was expected from Equinix. I was instructed to ask for the hiring manager when I arrived. My schedule consisted of a brief presentation, one on one interviews and was to end with a lunch interview with the hiring manager.
Instead, there was immediate confusion around my arrival. I flew almost 5 hours to interview in person to be told the hiring manager was on PTO. The receptionists were very diligent in calling several people to let them know I was there. It was like no one was expecting me. There was no acknowledgement or explanation offered by anyone on what occurred. Instead of having a final interview with lunch, I was given a juice and piece of fruit following my final interview.
In fact, even post interview, I was never contacted by the recruiter as a final candidate. I followed up with her and asked her to call me and indicated there was some confusion. We arranged time to talk but she never called. A few days later I was sent a blanket email that the team when with the other candidate. Hey, at least I got something!
I hope my experience was not the standard and hope more consideration is given to the experience of future candidates. Candidate experiences give a window into the culture of an organization and impacts brand reputation and consumer behavior.
