After talking to Hiring Manager will schedule a phone interview mainly focus on coding interview. The whole interview process is very smooth, the interview is kind and nice, will give you some hint when you are stuck.
I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Etsy (Ciudad de Mexico) in Feb 2022
Interview
After an initial screening with the recruiter, I was moved on to an interview with the hiring manager (another machine learning engineer). I was told this was not a technical interview, but it was 100% technical and included a live coding problem (LC medium).
The interview lasted one hour and the interviewer wasn't very open to communication particularly on the live coding. In the end, I found an optimal O(n) solution that passed all test cases and tried to always think out loud.
On the next day I received a rejection email with a no-feedback disclaimer, but the interviewer told me the next steps would be the on-site interviews (4, if I recall correctly).
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
About my current projects, what tech stack I have used, about Docker, some basic questions about ML (i.e. difference between supervised and unsupervised learning and example of each).
For the live coding, I was given a positive integer k and was asked to find all the possible moving windows (find starting and ending points) of values [1, 2, 3, 4, ...] whose sum would add up to k.
We appreciate you sharing your experience with us though we’re sorry to hear your interview process wasn’t what you hoped it would be. We do find it best practice to provide up front details about the full interview process prior to determining whether a candidate will eventually move through all stages. However with a recent influx of interest from candidates and therefore more folks in process at any given moment, we recognize that there have been more instances of misunderstanding or miscommunication. We are working to improve our internal training, extend hiring resources, and further educate hiring managers to bring the Etsy experience you’d expected.
I applied online. I interviewed at Etsy (New York, NY) in Nov 2017
Interview
I applied online and was contacted by their recruiter. I did a 1 hr phone screen talking about my past projects and basic machine learning questions (e.g., l1/l2 and their geometric interpretation). I answered all their questions but they didn't even show courtesy following up with me at all. I never received any rejection/acceptance email from them. I know some Chinese applicants who got hired as interns easily without even going through their hiring process. This startup is heavily governed by Chinese in a mafia-like style so stay away if you are from other nations.
