      Software Engineer Interview

      Jul 1, 2023
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at EverCharge in Feb 2023

      Interview

Initial call with recruiter, then a follow up panel with code exercises/design. I only spoke with one person that had more than five years professional experience. One of the engineers in the system design exercise had an issue with my choice to use simple shapes for architectural components instead of the AWS specific icons. An engineer doing the code exercise explained that she was a waitress just a few years back but went to a code camp. She wasn’t keen on my wanting to not use some of the latest language features in the exercise even though my solution worked and didn’t compromise on performance. Another engineer explained it was his second job out of college and wasn’t sure why I didn’t feel the need to implement everything using a bunch of class structures for a simple set of REST endpoints. The hiring manager (who had more than five years of professional experience) reached out a couple days later and offered a genuine apology as they were ironing out their interview process. Seems like maybe a good place to get your feet wet in the industry, but I’m not sure if anyone with any real experience will be welcome or find the culture appealing.
