I was contacted by a recruiter through Naukri for a Product Owner position. I requested the job description, but they mentioned it was a typical Product Owner role and scheduled a face-to-face interview for Saturday.
On Friday evening, I received a call saying the interviewer was busy and the interview would be rescheduled. However, on Saturday morning, another recruiter called asking what time I would be arriving for the interview — which was confusing since I was told it was canceled. They then requested me to come by afternoon, so I adjusted my schedule and hurried to the office.
After waiting for some time, I was informed that the interviewer would be joining virtually. This was surprising — if it was a virtual interview, there was no reason for me to travel all the way to the office. To make things worse, the interviewer joined via phone, had a poor internet connection, and the audio kept breaking up.
Within five minutes, he started asking technical questions related to .NET and Python development. I clarified my background and experience, explaining that my profile focuses on Product Management and not development. Only then did he review my resume and say they were actually looking for someone with a developer background.
It was disappointing that the team hadn’t reviewed my resume properly before scheduling, nor shared the JD when requested. The entire process felt disorganized and careless — from communication to role clarity. Unfortunately, they turned what could have been a good opportunity into a wasted Saturday.
If there’s a handbook on how not to conduct an interview, this experience would check every box.
