I recently interviewed for a position and had two rounds with senior leadership – one with a senior manager and another with a director. The first round was one of the best interview experiences I’ve ever had. The hiring managers were engaging, supportive, and created a calming, two-way conversation that helped bring out my best.
Unfortunately, the second round was quite the opposite. The director conducting the interview appeared disinterested and dismissive, which made the atmosphere tense and uncomfortable. The tone and atmosphere between the two rounds couldn’t have been more different.
Despite this, I progressed to the HR discussion stage, where we spoke about salary expectations. After that conversation, all communication ceased. I followed up, but received no response or closure. Being ghosted at such a late stage is disappointing.
I believe companies can do better by providing timely updates or even a simple note of rejection. Feedback – even a brief one – would go a long way in helping candidates grow and improve.
