Interview
The interview process was straight forward. I had a phone screen with a recruiter who then scheduled an interview with the IT help desk hiring manager. The phone screen went great with the recruiter, but the hiring manager was a different story. First he was over 15 minutes late for the phone interview, things happen in IT and you can get pulled in many different directions. I understood that it could have been one of those scenarios.
When I finally got the phone call, he apologized for being tardy. As the interview went on, I got the feeling that he really didn't want to be on this call. I was asked to hold on as he responded to someone over Instant Message. I felt that this was very discourteous to me. This was a red flag for me because if a manager doesn't want to give you their full attention during an interview, it would be worse working under them.
I was asked, "If we hire you and you quit in 6 months, why would you quit?". I felt that this question was extremely offensive to me as a prospective candidate. This question was loaded with assumptions about me as a candidate. I understand that they are looking for the right candidate, but this question has no business in an interview. After the interview, I asked a few people who are in recruiting about asking someone that question. They all said that it was, "out of line."
Overall I was quite disappointed in the way that interview went. I was really excited to interview after talking with the recruiter.
