      QA Engineer Interview

      Aug 5, 2015
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Seattle, WA
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Expeditors (Seattle, WA) in Jul 2015

      Interview

I applied through glassdoor for a QA position and got a call from hiring manager to schedule a phone interview. Second round was onsite with three hiring leads asking back to back questions for almost 45 minutes. When all the questions were done they gave the QA exercise which was three sheet exercise with different modules to test QA skills. After 3 days got a call from one of the lead and he invited me for another onsite round which was team specific now and the interview round was almost similar with HR and situational technical questions for 1 hour. The last round was with Senior manager of the team which was more like a discussion of the work you would be doing and benefits. I got an offer 3 days later and they offered me developer in test position.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

All questions were resume based. Phone interview was all HR questions like strengths and weaknesses. What did you contribute in your team. Second round was onsite group panel round with three people and they all were asking back to back questions based on the resume and some of the HR questions. They also gave me the QA exercise and left the room for 15-20 minutes to give you time to think about the test cases. It was a walk through of the testing exercise and then they were asking questions like what part would you automate and what not. Third interview was the team specific and it was similar to the second one. It was more of a thorough day in your present job. They generally try to know the experience you have and what you do in your current role. Next round was with senior manager, he asked the stages of SDLC and what is the most important stage of SDLC. The qualities they try to find in you would be your curiosity and how outspoken you are. Try to ask questions to them, show them you are not hesitant in getting things clarified.

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Expeditors (Seattle, WA) in Sep 2015

      Interview

They took total 3 rounds of interview. Interviewers are good and make you feel comfortable. First round was telephonic and just normal general questions regarding background, some technical knowledge and HR related questions were asked. Second round lasted about 40 min which was a conference call interview(as I was located at a different place). 4 interviewers asked back to back questions mainly from my Resume. The interview is simple and just that you should know thoroughly what you have put in your resume. After a week they asked me to come for a last in-person interview for which they did not provide any reimbursement or financial assistance. This last interview lasted for about 2 hrs where a panel of 5 members asked questions from different perspectives. Combination of technical and HR questions. Just to check if you have the right attitude for the job. They gave a small testing exercise which was not that tough and asked explanations on my answers to it. Few more questions and it was done. Everyone seemed quite impressed by my performance and said would let me know the decision after 2 days. Lastly I was taken for a discussion with one lady manager. She just took a briefing of my previous job and then started explaining about company policies, benefits and perks etc. When all seemed to be going very well, 3 hours after I left their premises, I got a call from them asking if I required sponsorship to work now or in future. Being an international student I already had work authorization (OPT) but in future I said I will need it and they hung up. I had already specified this, by answering the same question in their form, while applying for the job online. This was however totally unprofessional behavior from the company. Later after two days they informed me that "they have decided to move into different direction". Quite unacceptable and unconvincing answer. I would suggest international students to better clarify this from them before proceeding (although you fill the online application correctly) to prevent wastage of your efforts, time and money.
