      Data Scientist Interview

      Aug 11, 2021
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Extend, Inc. (San Francisco, CA) in Jul 2021

      Interview

Extend has experienced tremendous growth, and I'm sure people achieved that through grit and being able to own up to fast-paced tasks that come their way. I say this because this was a common theme I heard in the on-site, which may be perceived as a good thing for some, and a warning for those who won't be able to handle the startup's fast pace. At times, it did feel like people were giving me warnings throughout the onsite. The interview process leading up to the onsite was okay. Recruiter call, hiring manager call, take-home (it was good to see what kind of data you'd be working with, although it's quite a large task that you *definitely* need allotted time for -- be sure to ask questions). With regards to the onsite, a common thing that is said about job interviews is that the job applicant is also interviewing the company. I say this because I didn't feel like I got the best impression from the company. One conversation that stuck out was an exercise with a data scientist, who was clearly irritated. Their irritation was present throughout the interview, and I feel like their behavior and sarcastic remarks drove me into a light bit of anxiety. I had no chance to ask them questions. This experience stuck out to me more than any experience in the on-site, considering this would have been a person I'd have collaborated with. Even though I didn't get to ask questions, their behavior and their attitude painted a resounding picture. Otherwise, the other interviewers were nice, although I don't know if their selection of technical questions are the best questions to ask candidates.

      Easy interview

      Application

      I interviewed at Extend, Inc.

      Interview

I met with a senior data scientist in the first round who seemed extremely uninterested to talk to me. I was not asked any technical questions during the call but rather trivial questions. I was told an online assignment would follow through but all I received was a rejection a few days later without any explanation or feedback. I feel like the first call was a waste of time.
