I did the typical phone interview which was mostly a joke. Out of the 20 minutes I spent, 17 of them could have been answered by the recruiter if she would have just read through my resume. A couple questions were relevant to the role and made sure you were qualified.
I did get a face to face with the Director of Life Sales. The role description says you will be helping agents with financial sales, and being a financial expert with multi-line agents. Basically helping up sell and cross sell securities (securities licensed required) and life insurance. That is not what you will be doing. You will be a estate planning and large life insurance case expert. I have a very solid background in securities and investments, not life.
I was told after 10 minutes that I don't have enough qualifications for this role. (So why was I brought in?!?; review my resume before hand & not waste our time) Basically meaning, you haven't sold enough life in the past and we don't want someone helping our agents sell investments (less profit margin). I was told I don't have enough big life case experience; the agents wouldn't trust or buy in to you. If the agents could do it on their own you wouldn't need a life expert to help them. My experience fits the job description perfectly as I have done almost exactly what they describe in my past roles, just internally not externally. Beware, unless you have been very successful in life sales and want to continue to do that, you won't get it. If I were successful selling life on my own, I wouldn't need to be a company employee and assisting others, right?
