Interview
The Farm Journal interview process highlighted significant cultural challenges. I went through multiple rounds for the SVP role, eventually meeting with the President. When I asked about measuring strategic initiatives using a common top-down goal-setting technique discussed in previous rounds, I found the President unaware of the topic. Instead, she emphasized the company's stretched-thin human resources.
A strong SVP could make a positive impact, but the organization appears misaligned, and hiring alone won't solve the issues. Regrettably, there was no communication from the internal recruiter after the interview with the President, despite discussions about timely next steps, including meeting the CEO. It's been over three months without any response despite two check-ins on my end, which goes beyond common courtesy. This reinforces the initial observation: Farm Journal's culture requires a significant overhaul.
