      Social Media Associate Interview

      Jan 19, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Fashion Nova

      Interview

The entire phone call was utterly unprofessional. It was supposed to be a 30-minute phone call that only lasted 11 minutes. The person gave me a less than 30 second run-down of what the job entailed, which did not match the job description listed on the website. She then asked if I had any questions and this is when her true colors came out. I asked what I might expect in a typical day, and this question seemed to upset her. She got defensive and said that she had already told me in the 30 second run-down of the job description. I have never had anyone give me attitude when I've asked that question. I understood the job description but what's listed for the role doesn't necessarily mean you'll be doing that every day M-F. I just wanted a general idea of what my day would look like. Part of the job description was working with influencers and making sure that they're posting and engaging with the brand. I then tried to relate my experience collaborating with different people and companies, and this upset her even more. She cut me off to tell me that she wasn't going to be giving away business secrets and that it was something she couldn't discuss over the phone. I wanted to clarify the misunderstanding, but she was not having it. I'm not sure how she jumped to the conclusion that me giving an example of how I've worked in a collaborative setting was somehow me prying for company secrets. Although I have not worked with influencers, I just wanted her to know that I did have experience working with a large number of people and companies in a collaborative setting. I brushed off her negative attitude and continued with my second question. I asked how the company evaluates success (how would I know I'm doing well in the first 30-90 days) and she abruptly cut me off to tell me that she couldn’t answer that question and that I would only be able to know the answer if I got the next round. Once again, I brushed aside her curt response and continued with my next question. I asked why the person in the role before left or why they were leaving and this question struck a nerve with her. She paused and with the rudest tone let me know that they didn't go anywhere because they all became supervisors. At this point, I was shocked. I like to ask this question because I want to know if there is opportunity for growth within the company, if the person left because they accepted another position elsewhere, if they were fired, etc.

My last question to her was what she liked about working with the company, and her answer was curt and didn’t show any passion for the business or her job.

She then asked me what my pay range was and I told her $20+ (what I had listed in the online application). She let me know that they could only offer $14-16 and she also wanted to know why I wanted to work in an entry-level role when I had been a manager before. I told her that I was at a small business where I was the only one in my department and Fashion Nova being a huge company would allow me to get my foot in the door. For some reason, she didn’t like my response and bullied me into saying I’d put my resume on the side in case another opportunity came up.

This was by far the most unprofessional employee I have ever spoken to in my life. I have no idea why she was so rude and condescending. I’m not sure if she realizes that interviews are a two-way street. You’re trying to sell your company and put your best foot forward, no one is begging you for a job. After speaking with her on the phone, I would never want to work or even buy anything from Fashion Nova. I hope upper management or the business owner takes note of this rude employee. She is scaring off potential talent with her nasty and negative attitude. She is not the best person to put at the forefront of the business. If she represents Fashion Nova, there is no way I would want to associate myself with the brand, let alone work for them.
