I applied for a personal banker 1 position. The recruiter told me I’d fit well for a PB II position. I have extensive banking experience, to include management and loans. I knew this position would be a step backwards in my career but had heard great things about their pay and work life balance.
I did two more interviews, one with the financial center manager and one with the regional manager. I was then offered a Personal Banker I (I thought I was interviewing for II).
They made an offer but only offered $23 an hour and 17 days off. All inclusive, vacation, sick, personal. This would be working 6 days a week and prospecting in the community to build a book of business. Fifth third should really review their salary standards (all bank, really. This is a senior level role that requires a lot of skill, knowledge, time and versatility).
$23 an hour, after taxes, healthcare, retirement, SSI. Etc doesn’t leave much take home pay especially if you’re driving in 6 days a week, most weeks.
I’m also not sure who think that 17 days off is a generous PTO package in 2025, it is not. Especially for people with over a decade of experience.
Everyone I interviewed with was kind. But given where I am in my career, that was entry level pay and entry level package for a position that hefts a lot of responsibility.
I realize the market isn’t the same, but in my previous position I was fully remote, made more than double that per hour, and had an extra 10 days of time off per year.
