I applied through college or university. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Fisher Investments (Portland, OR) in Dec 2014
Interview
I did not like this interview process. They were deceitful with the position description and I regret spending time to go through the process. They are really only trying to expand their sales force with recent college graduates. They literally have over 100 young adults working as account executives making cold calls all day. Then they have another 100 client services associates that communicate with current clients. This job did not involve any investing.
I met a representative at my school career fair and set up an interview the following day. It was a basic, 30 minute interview with easy questions about me. I didn't hear back for about month, but they wanted to set up a phone interview. This also didn't take that long and was relatively easy. I was then invited to their office in Portland. My visit was scheduled for a month after the phone interview.
I arrived in Portland the day before the interview. The morning of, I boarded a bus with 15 other applicants to go to their office. We were given a short presentation about the company first, then each put into separate rooms around the office. I interviewed with people from different areas (investment operations, client services, account executive), but none of them had direct interaction with investing.
After the interviews, we drove around the city for a bit, then went out to dinner with current associates.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Sometimes clients call and ask why some changes were made in their portfolio. They don't always have the same amount of financial knowledge you do, so you have to explain it in simple terms. Explain something to me in basic terms.
I enjoyed the process but also no idea where it’s going. Excited to see what happens and hoping for a good result. Also I need to write 30 words I guess
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Fisher Investments (Camas, WA) in Jun 2021
Interview
Don’t apply. The only entry position is client service associate which is basically busy work nobody wants to do. They respond to your application quickly because HR is measured by success on how many interviews they do. So they literally interview knowing that they aren’t going to hire. That’s why they always have job openings listed on their website. So they can keep HR busy. The firm has no flexibility. 50 hours of busy work if you do take the job. The process consists of a phone screening then round robin with multiple teams claiming they have open positions but again they only hire CSA for new hires. Questions are all normal behavioral and really easy but hiring is really dependent on if enough people have quit recently that they need bodies.
I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Fisher Investments (Camas, WA) in Jun 2021
Interview
The overall interview process was pretty lengthy. For starters, you aren’t applying for the “Investment Associate” role but rather multiple roles that the company thinks you’d fit in well with. First you meet with a recruiter, then you meet with multiple hiring managers, then a debrief with a recruiter about your experience, and then back to one of the hiring managers, and finally culminating with a Vice President or “higher-up.” All this being said, everyone was very polite and welcoming throughout the process. Interview questions were standard behavioral questions with a few random ones mixed in. Expect the whole process to take at least a month from start to finish.
