The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Fleetio
Interview
3 round process, never do a take home interview for any company since it’s a waste of time. Said I’d get a $200 gift card from Amazon as well which was a lie.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Fleetio (Denver, CO) in Apr 2024
Interview
The interview process took almost 2 months from start to finish and would best be described as a hurry up and wait scenario.
During the process I was told there was one other person being considered whom they had extended an offer to. My advancement in the process would be contingent on the other candidate’s response to their offer. At one point we were waiting to see if they would accept.
Eventually the other candidate turned down their offer and I went forward with a code assignment.
The code assignment consisted of several objectives to complete against a React / Rails stack.
The objectives were:
- Get the Rails app and Postgres db standing
- Fix Rails routing config causing error 500 on api
- Fix business logic “efficiency calculation” in api controller
- Refactor `SpecificCard` to extract a more generic `Card` implementation.
- Implement a "windowing/virtualized" list solution on a view with a 10000+ element list.
- Improve front end experience by implementing responsive cards instead of un-styled list
The time given was 5-8 hrs over 2-3 days.
For reference the top two React windowing / virtualization libraries have been in constant development for almost a decade and contain 10-30k lines of code respectively. This left me unsure what they were expecting.
After completing the assignment I didn’t hear back from them for almost two weeks. Instead of the expected post assignment interview where I walk through my code, I was told they went with “another candidate”.
