Interviewing at Flexport was hands down one of the worst interview experiences I've ever had. Coming from the recruiting world, I definitely understand that there are a lot of moving parts, it's hectic, and sometimes candidates bear the brunt of that, but this experience was downright terrible.
I went onsite 1-2 weeks after my initial call and it was an interesting experience. 3/4 of the people I met with were welcoming but then one of the interviewers legitimately had no idea why he was interviewing me. He came in with a laptop and just read questions off this doc. It was so strange and you could tell he did not want to be there. The interview ended and the manager said she’d follow up by Friday with next steps/feedback.
I sent my thank you’s, waited until Friday but didn’t hear anything. I gave it the weekend and followed up on Monday to see if there was any feedback. Got a note from the coordinator looping in the manager to provide feedback and “potential next steps.” I said, “great please let me know!” Another day goes by…nothing. I email the manager directly asking to please let me know what next steps/feedback was either way. Nothing. Now almost 2 weeks have gone by and they haven’t even formally rejected me or given any feedback.
Regardless of whether you’re moving forward or not with a candidate, it is TERRIBLE recruiting practice to just ignore candidates. It doesn’t matter how busy you are, that’s a part of your job.
I understand this company is growing at an extremely fast pace, but reading all of these awful interviewing reviews, that cannot be a scalable process. I wish them the best of luck moving forward but I strongly urge you to keep the candidate experience in mind as your scale the team. I would highly discourage anyone in my network from going through that process.
