I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at FlightSafety International (Saint Louis, MO) in Dec 2011
Interview
Formal interview with center management followed by practical teaching demonstration of a flight maneuver as if briefing students. HR phone interview about one week later. Result of employee referral, they prefer to hire people who are known.
I applied online. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at FlightSafety International in Jan 2019
Interview
Give a 10-15 minute presentation to a panel of people and then conduct a panel interview. My interview was mostly HR related and surprisingly not technical. The job offered 115,000 starting pay. Work schedule was 5-6 days sometimes 7 days a week. You are expected to work weekends and holidays. Employees said they work upnto 10 hours a day. You are only given 10 days off a year and 2 sick days. Pay sounds good until you realize they are going to work you like a dog. After taxes job paid around $40.00 dollars an hour which is way too little considering the credentials you have to have to be an instructor. Training period prior to work is several months long and requires almost all of it be away from home so be prepared to leave home for 2-3 months. The company also requires you to sign a 2 year training contract and if you leave they require you pay back the cost of the training which could be anywhere from $30,000 to 100,000 dollars in simulator training costs. In today’s market for pilots this job is severely under paid with no time off. If you are not burned out in a month I’d be shocked.
