It started back in the fall of my freshman semester when the initial application window was available. I had close ties with my RA at the time so getting a recommendation was not a huge problem (Getting a recommendation from someone in Housing is a huge plus, if not either your current employer or professor would help as well).
The actual interview didn't happen until early spring, when it was spread out over one weekend. The Friday night before consisted of a group orientation, going over who will have which schedule (some people do it all on a Saturday whereas some people carry over on Sunday). During your interview day (or Selection day), you and your group will experience a number of "real-world" scenarios where you'll be tested on how much RA potential you have. As is usual for interview etiquette don't be rockin' it out like a rock-star and don't pretend you're in a confession booth. After you go through your scenarios, you'll finally do your actual interview - one with a coordinator/assistant coordinator and one with a RA. They do it all in one room so make sure you raise your voice.
