Applied online. Contacted by recruiter for phone call. First round of screening with a recruiter to discuss resume and salary expectations. Recruiter went through screening questions from hiring team. Explained there was a written assessment further along the hiring process.
Pros:
• None that I experienced during the process.
Cons:
• Recruiter was dismissive, arrogant, and unprofessional. I was told directly that moving forward would be a “waste of time.” That kind of language is insulting to any candidate, especially one with advanced education and years of relevant experience.
• The role itself was little more than glorified data entry, yet the recruiter acted like I was underqualified. In reality, I was dramatically overqualified and could have done the work in my sleep.
• It was obvious they weren’t looking for someone qualified, but someone they could throw into the role without any onboarding or training. That signals a project already in disarray.
• As a former Fluor employee, I’ve seen firsthand how poor projects and mismanagement are the norm. This recruiting experience only reinforced that nothing has changed.
• If this is how candidates are treated, it’s a warning sign for how employees are treated once they’re inside.
Advice to Management:
Stop letting recruiters act as gatekeepers who belittle qualified candidates. Treat applicants with respect and invest in proper onboarding and training instead of plugging holes in chaotic projects. Until management addresses its culture of mismanagement, you’ll keep repelling good talent and recycling the same problems.
