I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Franklin Templeton (Saint Petersburg, FL) in Dec 2010
Interview
First there's a 30 minute phone interview with HR, and then if you're invited back for the face to face interview you need to go through a typing test and a written test which last about an hour. Immediately after the typing and written tests is the panel interview. The interviewers are 2 of the supervisors in the department. They ask about 8-10 questions and are writing them down the entire time you are talking, which makes it a little less stressful since they are not just staring at you the entire time you're talking. The questions are NOT traditional, but behavioral and they want answers in the STAR format (Situation, Task, Action, Result)

They were all pretty standard questions. Nothing unexpected.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Franklin Templeton (San Mateo, CA) in Nov 2012
Interview
Went through a recruiter. Mind you, the company already recovered from the recession stage and was eager to hire another senior. Went in for one round and I didn't talk to the HR person - I realized this is more of a exception rather than the rule. These days, IF there is an opening, no matter how great the resume is, it will go through the HR interview. That one round consisted of 3 individuals, about 30 minutes. I think I got a great recruiter who had a great relationship with the hiring manager.
