Good phone screen with HR recruiter. She scheduled a virtual interview for the next day at 10am with the hiring manager. She sent me an email explaining they use the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) analysis interview structure. I studied up. I go into the interview ready to sell myself. No one shows up. I give it 10 minutes, still no one. I even gave it another 5 after that. (Red flag) Called the recruiter, she said this doesn’t normally happen, she apologized and said she would reach out to reschedule. I said ok. She called back about 5 minutes later and said the hiring manager could jump on the zoom call now. I still had the time, so I joined the meeting. The hiring manager (who is also the merchandising supervisor) joined the meeting in his car (okay, just a little unprofessional, another red flag). The interview lasted about 10 minutes and the whole time, the interviewer kept trying to come up with reasons why I shouldn’t want the job. He kept asking “are you sure?” whenever I would say “yes, i’m totally okay with working 10-12 hour days,” “yes, i understand that it’s going to be a lot of physically demanding work.” I explained to him my experience and how I left that job to work a remote position, which I didn’t see myself fit for, and I was ready to get back into a physical labor job because I enjoyed it more. He completely discredited my past experience and focused mainly on the fact that I was coming from a remote desk job. Again, I mentioned to him that it wasn’t something I wanted to do anymore. At the end I told him I’m ready and willing to work all hours, weekends and holidays included. He said they’re still conducting interviews and he would reach out after the weekend if he decided to proceed with me (AKA a recruitment script that’s provided to let you know you didn’t get the job, but they’ll email you the rejection later.)
