      Sr. Product Manager Interview

      Nov 30, 2020
      Anonymous employee
      Cleveland, OH
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Gatsby (CA) (Cleveland, OH) in Oct 2020

      Interview

The interview process was quite thorough at Gatsby, well-structured, and fairly well-cadenced. Each step of the interview process seemed consist of: - Link to Calendly so I could select a date / time that worked for me (awesome, and sadly infrequent among hiring companies) - Video interview with an employee (head of talent, hiring manager, fellow potential team members within and outside of the hiring manager org) - Email-based debrief (short and sweet!) after each session It wasn't a particularly FAST process, which I'm okay with. I think it's critical to really get to know the team, and for the team to really get to know you. I loved the structure, and consistency of the process. I'll also add that this was very conversational in modality. It was not a one-sided examination.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

We actually worked some live scenarios re: real problems being explored within the product org. I was asked how I'd approach each, and why. I loved worked a real problem together.

      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Gatsby (CA) in Jan 2022

      Interview

I met with the hiring manager (my new boss-to-be, Director of PM) a few times. Before our 2nd conversation I was given a Product Sense prompt to research a bit about Gatsby competitors for us to discuss. I met with a Principal PM to discuss my experience, and I took advantage of the opportunity to ask them questions about the Product discipline at Gatsby. I met with the Eng Manager for the team I was interviewing for, and had a casual conversation about how I've worked with development teams. Finally, I was given a $250 paid take-home exercise to complete in 3-4 hours - and was added to a single-Slack channel to be able to share progress and ask questions for it. Before receiving my take-home exercise, they sent me their compensation calculator to clarify salary expectations early.

      Question 2

      Question 3

Q: How might you prioritize a specific list of features? Explain your framework, process, reasoning, etc. (They included information about company OKRs and linked me to a public site with customer feedback).

      Senior Product Manager Interview

      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

      I interviewed at Gatsby (CA)

      Interview

Basic introductory interview/screening with an HR generalist that went well. Then, they sent a follow up email introducing all of the parties I'd be interviewing with and giving an overview of the process. A day later, got an canned email saying they were pursuing another candidate. Judging by the other responses on Glassdoor, this seems like a common outcome. Surprising, given that their product is so well thought out that this is how their hiring process works. DO NOT phone screen unless actual department hiring has already expressed interest in the person. DO NOT send a follow up/process email if you're not actually moving forward.
