I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Gatsby (CA) in Nov 2020
Interview
Process consisted of several interviews and a project, beginning with an interview with an HR individual. Then interviewed with several other employees, including manager of the department hiring, a colleague in the same department, and the manager's manager.
Interviews were a mix of technical and soft skills for working on a team. After the last interview, received a paid take home project and submitted it. After it was reviewed, I was notified of the offer.
Everyone along the was was very friendly and open about their experiences and what to expect. The HR team set good expectations on next steps, timelines, and expectations.

E.g. What is something you did that you are proud of?
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Gatsby (CA) (Denver, CO) in Dec 2021
Interview
This interview review is for a referral, so I can't speak to a more "standard" process. The stages went as follows for me:
1. Call with the Hiring Manager and the Engineering Manager
2. High level technical call with a staff engineer on my team
3. PAID!!!! take home project (this was waived for me due to interview performance and the referral)
4. Call with the VP of engineering as a "get to know you" (I knew I was getting an offer at this point)
5. Offer call to discuss the package
I felt that the interview process was extremely well balanced. I felt as if everyone who interviewed me was deeply invested in both the process and in my potential as a candidate. The technical interview was on a subject I was briefed on in advance so that I had time to review material, and it was a really welcoming conversational tone rather than a gate keeping technical interview.
I felt that my time was very well respected. I didn't need to wait more than a day at any time to hear about a next step or to receive feedback on my performance as a whole.
This was probably the best interview process I have ever taken part in, and that played a significant role in my immediate acceptance of the offer.

Question 1
For the technical portion, we had a high level conversation about rate limit implementations and how I might go about pursuing an implementation of one in the gatsby tech stack. It was a genuinely enjoyable topic with lots of good back and forth. Gatsby doesn't have any whiteboarding in their tech interview process, which I really appreciate.
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Gatsby (CA) (San Francisco, CA) in Nov 2021
Interview
Stellar interview process. I have so many positive things to say about it, but to keep it succinct:
- Communication was consistent and professional
- Each step struck the right balance between being substantial yet considerate of everyone's time
- Felt like they wanted me to succeed, compared to other companies where I was treated like an adversary
Individual steps were:
1. Initial interview with recruiting manager for basic context
2. Interview with engineering leader on a variety of topics
3. Live programming test with engineer
4. Take-home programming project
The only drawback is step 3 rewards individuals who are comfortable live programming with strangers, which is a fairly unusual scenario (unless you're a support engineer or [maybe] a content creator). On the other hand, it is an efficient way to time box an interview.
Overall, 10/10 would recommend applying.
