Received email requesting a writing sample and wanting to interview next morning by telephone. Interview by telephone was very pleasant. Second interview scheduled - I was going to be nearby so I went to campus. It was booked quickly as well.
I arrived early and I was clean and dressed in a suit. After they saw me, which included multiple people coming to the door, calling to me from a distance, then telling me they'd be with me in a minute (before they were late), the interview began late, and changed from an "interview" to an "informal meeting".
Neither of the interviewers had a lick of interest. I felt like I was begging them to ask me questions, which was greeted with, "I think we are all set". I asked about expectations, and the desired skills dramatically changed from the actual job description. One example was wanting advanced technology experience, so I asked if they wanted to know about my experience: "no". I tried to talk about components of the job description that I had been asked about over the telephone, and they played those tasks down as being a minor part of the job. I finally asked why they called me in for an interview if I wasn't what they were looking for, and they became very defensive and blamed me saying simultaneously, it was I who had come to that conclusion.
It was truly awful. Who would have thought EEO would be an actual actor in discrimination? I tried to follow up with their legal department and, no surprise, they denied the behavior, the bias, and denied what was clearly in writing from their own staff (basic stuff like, oh, it was an interview).
If I had made a special trip to this area of the world for just this interview, I think my internalizing their bad behavior and discriminatory conduct would not been as embarrassing and mortifying, but would have been rage inducing.
