The entire interview process was pretty straightforward. It began with a phone screen with the lead member of the search committee. After about one month, I was brought in for the in-person interview, which consisted of two parts: an interview with the search committee (5 staff members and 1 student) and an interview with the hiring manager. The people were nice, and the questions seemed typical of a Student Affairs-type position. (e.g. Strengths; Weaknesses; Programs/Activities You Would Implement; etc.)
The conclusion of the hiring process was rather unexpected. I didn't hear anything from them for about two and a half months. And when I did hear back, it was an automated, form email that said that they decided not to fill the position and would reclassify it at a later date. This form message invited me to reapply for the position if I was interested. I thought that I would've gotten a phone call with their decision -- especially since I actually interviewed for the job (and felt like I made a good impression). Regardless, my situation means that either (1) I was completely wrong about their hiring process and expected too much in terms of the type/amount of follow-up to expect, or (2) their ability to relate and properly communicate decisions needs to be improved.
